Generic Code Campaign (Standalone)
In the Campaign manager, you can create a generic promo campaign. Generic campaigns are represented by a single code. They are most often used to run open-for-all campaigns with redemption limits that are unlimited by default.
Prerequisite
This article assumes you have already familiarized yourself with the Coupons ultimate guide.
Contents
- Open the Campaign manager
- Set the time frame
- Choose the discount category and value
- Select the validation rules

- Review summary
- Editing the Generic Code
Open the Campaign manager
Run the Campaign Manager with the Create campaign button to create a generic campaign.
Next, choose Discount coupons as your campaign type and select Generic code in the campaign size.
In the last field, define the code to be used in the campaign, e.g. "WINTER-DEALS".
In the manager, go through the steps below.
Set the timeframe
Define optional time limits of your campaign:
- Start and end date.
- Validity timeframe (for example, only for 3 hours every day).
- Particular days only (for example, only Wednesdays).
Keep in mind that if you do not set the end date, your campaign will be valid indefinitely. You can modify the expiration date after the campaign is on. Read more about time-related limits.
Choose the discount category and value
By using the discount type, decide what discount category will be applied to the order and with what effects:
- Order Discount
- Products Discount
- Rewards
- Free Shipping
Dynamic discounts
Instead of using a static value for a given discount, you can also create formulas with mathematical and logical operators and assign a dynamic discount value. Discounts will be calculated during redemption based on the provided formula and metadata values.
Select the validation rules
Next, build validation rules that model the desired redemption conditions. Create new validation rules or choose from the existing set of rules.
The set of available validation rules is defined by the discount type chosen in the previous step.
The details of building validation rules are described in the How to build validation rules guide.
Add metadata (optional)
In the last step, add additional information as metadata (custom attributes).
Review summary
The last step of the Campaign manager shows the Summary of the generic code. Make changes and edit the code if needed.
Click save to create a generic code campaign.
Editing the Generic Code
Some settings can only be changed by editing the code itself. For example, the redemption limit is fixed once the code is created and cannot be modified through the campaign settings, but only through the code settings.
Some settings can be changed at the campaign level, but they won’t affect the code. For instance, updating validation rules (such as usage restrictions or allowed customer groups) will only apply at the campaign level and won’t change the existing code.
Other settings will update both the campaign and the code. For example, adjusting the discount amount in the campaign settings will immediately apply to the code.
Additionally, changing the code’s expiration date won’t affect the campaign, but changing the campaign’s expiration date will update the code accordingly.
