You need a MailChimp account in order to recreate this workflow.
Add birth dates to MailChimp
To start, log in to your MailChimp account and go to the Audience tab and View Contacts. Here in the Settings section, go to Audience Fields and Merge tags to add a new tag "Birthday".
Also, make sure that you have some text tags that are going to be used as fields for Voucherify codes.
After adding the new Birthday merge tag, you need to update your customers' information with birth dates.
Integrate Voucherify with MailChimp
Next, go to the Integrations Directory and Connect MailChimp with Voucherify.
Provide your login information.
Finally, synchronize the chosen MailChimp list (the one that we've just updated with the Birthday merge tag) with Voucherify to add MailChimp audience to your customer base.
Before we can launch an automated birthday campaign, we need to create discount coupons.
Generate discount codes
To do so, go to your Campaigns tab → Create a Campaign → Bulk Codes Campaign.
Create 20% discount codes with a maximum discount value of $300.
Name your campaign, state how many vouchers you'd like to generate, and optionally play around with the code pattern.
Decide on your discount type and value:
In the next steps decide on optional time limitations and validation rules.
The codes will be redeemable once per customer to avoid coupon fraud.
Save the campaign and move on to the Distribution.
Launch Voucherify distribution (codes assignment)
The Distribution is going to act differently with this campaign as it does not involve sending a message to a customer, but rather attaching discount codes to particular customers.
You can also publish (assign) codes to customers via Publish API. Visit Developer Docs for additional information.
Select Automatic Message to attach codes to a changeable customer segment [MailChimp clients].
Next, select the purpose of the distribution – sending (attaching) unique codes from a campaign to customers.
Skip the 3rd step ( Choose the audience) as we are going to select our target customer base in the 5th step.
In the 4th step, title your message.
Next, select your channel (MailChimp) and select a MailChimp list which is going to act as your audience. Now, Voucherify is going to attach discount codes to particular customers. In order to add these codes to your MailChimp messages, provide the name of the merge tag that is going to be filled with a given code in MailChimp emails.
Create MailChimp email automation
Come back to your MailChimp account and go to Automate → E-mail.
Let's go with "Say 'happy birthday'" email.
Name your campaign and select the target audience from your MailChimp Audience list.
Next, establish the general workflow of your email campaigns, such as trigger, schedule, filters, and post-send action.
To make sure that our messages will be received only by customers who provided their birthday date, filter the segment.
All contacts from the list need to meet certain criteria: the birthday tag cannot be left blank.
Then, fill in some general information on the email, such as name, subject, email snippet, and sender's info.
Next, select your template based on a layout or theme. You can also re-use some of your old templates. In the last stage, design your mail.
The most important part of the design process for our tutorial are merge tags. Thanks to them, your customers are going to receive their emails with their own unique codes.
Make sure to use the same merge tag in your MailChimp email as the one provided in Voucherify Distribution.
Confirm with Start Sending and enjoy your first MailChimp and Voucherify automation.
Note that you can achieve similar workflows with integrations with Intercom and ActiveCampaign.
